A Perfect September Wedding: Samantha and Michael's Big Day
Introduction:
On a beautiful September day in 2023, I had the privilege of being the videographer for Samantha and Michael's wedding. Against the backdrop of the iconic St. Ambrose Cathedral and the historic Hotel Fort Des Moines, the day unfolded with a blend of timeless elegance and heartwarming moments. I was accompanied by my second shooter, Ozzy, who always joins me in documenting these precious memories.
Getting Ready at Hotel Fort Des Moines:
The day kicked off with the excitement of filming Samantha and her bridesmaids getting ready at Hotel Fort Des Moines. Laughter and joy filled the air as anticipation for the day ahead built up. The weather, a pleasant 70s with partly cloudy skies and no wind, set the perfect tone for what was to come.
First Look and Serenity at St. Ambrose Cathedral:
One memorable moment was standing outside St. Ambrose Cathedral, right in downtown Des Moines, as Samantha prepared for her first look with her father. Despite the bustling city surroundings, there was an unexpected calmness in the air. The cathedral, big, bold, and beautiful, provided a stunning setting for the bridal party photos and family portraits.
Ceremony and Celebration:
As the day unfolded, we seamlessly transitioned from capturing candid moments to documenting the heartwarming ceremony inside St. Ambrose Cathedral. The newlyweds, Samantha and Michael, made their joyous exit, greeted by cheers from friends and family. Trish Allison Photography and I followed the party bus to the Ola Babcock Miller Building, a historic spot that added a touch of grandeur to the bridal party photos.
Reception at Hotel Fort Des Moines:
Returning to Hotel Fort Des Moines for the reception felt like stepping into history. With its recent remodel, the venue exuded charm and nostalgia, making it even more special. The reception decorations were a sight to behold, featuring vibrant summer flowers and light blue tablecloths.
Live Music and Memorable Moments:
Samantha and Michael chose the unique touch of a live band, the electrifying Bluewater Kings Band, for their reception. The live music added a special energy to the celebration, with even a nod to Creedence Clearwater Revival, one of my personal favorites.
Gratitude and Acknowledgments:
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Samantha and Michael for allowing me to be part of their extraordinary day. Capturing their love story was an honor, and creating a video that will be cherished forever brings me immense joy. Special thanks to Trish Allison Photography for the collaboration and the stunning photos featured in this blog. In closing, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Alex Jimenez from Wildflower. His invaluable contributions played a pivotal role in ensuring seamless coordination among all vendors throughout the entire day, ensuring that every detail unfolded precisely as envisioned. Without Alex, a wedding simply lacks that special touch!
